Go to the Theatre for These Upcoming Fall Shows

CSUF’s theatre productions cover the Bible, The Simpsons and contemporary dance

By Daniel Steele

Want to see some on-campus drama? No, not the pointless kind you might find in your club or sorority. I’m talking the scripted variety.

If so, there are two plays and one dance remaining for this fall’s theatre programming, where they will explore mythical, dark and emotionally chaotic aspects of the human experience. Read on for details and pricing of each performance.

Children of Eden – $24/$22 Titan price
October 26 – November 11

This musical is written and composed by Stephen Schwartz, composer of the massively popular Broadway musical Wicked. Eden tells stories from the book of Genesis within the framework of family, making it relatable to all age groups.

Rather than a simple retelling of the Bible’s first book, it explores themes of “personal responsibility, rebellion, intellectual independence, as well as overcoming family dysfunctions,” says Schwartz on

Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play – $14/$12 Titan price
November 9 – December 2

If you only really use your Bible as a paperweight or prefer a good old fashion séance to a prayer, Mr. Burns will be a better fit.  This one is a darkly humorous tale of a post-apocalyptic group of survivors who’s only connection with past civilization is their tenuous memories of The Simpsons and other parts of pop culture.

In a review for The New York Times, Ben Brantley says, “The vital instinct to pass on and share stories, inevitably reshaping them along the way, is what this show celebrates.”

Fall Dance Theatre – $14/$12 Titan price
November 29 – December 9

This fall’s dance production features eight original pieces performed by dance students. Its mix of ballet and contemporary spans both the cosmic and the personal.

Dance Program Director Debra Noble says its themes, “travel into the far researches into the dark matter of space and the far corners of our heart.”
