Five Tips for Online Shopping

By: Monica Astacio

In ancient times people used to have to shower, get dressed, deal with transportation, long lines, and crowded malls to go shopping. Now with the invention of online shopping, it’s as simple as a click away.

It’s become more convenient to shop online with bargains, wider selections, secure payments all from the comfort your home. Here are a few tips that will help you get more bang for your buck when online shopping.

Coupon Codes

Websites have coupon codes offered as rewards to customers who shop with them often. You can still find these coupon codes online if you simply google the website and ‘coupon code.’

Some websites also allow combining different coupon codes at the same time. But with this tip, you must be strategic. If you have a promo code for 20% off and a coupon for $10 off. First, apply the 20% code to get that deducted from the full price. Then use the $10 off to get further savings.

Email Subscriptions

Signing up for email subscriptions can help you get huge savings, but the problem is you don’t want to spam your email account. You can make separate email accounts only for promotions and newsletters from websites to keep your personal email separate while still enjoying the savings. Also if you have multiple email accounts for promotions you get double the coupon codes and discounts.

Leave Items in Your Cart

Leaving items in your cart for a day or two can actually help you. It gives you more time to think about your purchase instead of impulsively buying an item. Some websites actually offer you a discount or coupons to get you to buy the product. A few of these websites include Macy’s, Bed Bath and Beyond and JCPenny’s.

Shop on the Right Days

Most stores announce sales and give promo codes Wednesday through Friday. The weekends are when most people have free time so hold on to your extra cash for the weekdays to save more.

Comparison Checks

Before you purchase an item make sure to do your research. Simply just google the product name and you will be able to see all the different prices. Many websites use dynamic pricing by using your location to give different prices. You can easily outsmart this technique by logging out of your email, clearing your browsing history, or shopping in an incognito window.
