Whether you like it or not, almost everyone has a piercing nowadays. From iced out ears to bedazzled belly-buttons, this trend likely won’t go away.

Want to get in on the action but don’t know where to start? We’re here to lay down some criteria that can serve as your piercing foundation.

Things you should look out for in a piercing company include cleanliness, pricing, and the general comfort level of the place.

Cleanliness: You have to make sure you’re getting piercings done in a clean environment to prevent infections. You’d be wasting your money, time, and patience if you have to get rid of your piercing because of a silly infection.

Pricing: Piercings should all be around the same price. But like all products, you get what you pay for. You may want to make sure you get quality piercings to prevent any dissatisfaction or re-do piercings.

Comfort: Piercings are stressful enough, try to find a professional that will ensure comfort and ease. After all, the last thing you need to worry about is an off-putting stranger when they’re about to stick a needle in you!

Engineer Ink Tattoo and Piercing  ($$)

Location: 5051 E Orangethorpe Ave. Unit E Anaheim, CA 92807

Cleanliness: The piercer follows the standard procedures, and the room itself is very clean.

Pricing: Pricing here is fair and actually on the cheaper side. The jewelry selection isn’t great, but then again the price was lower!

Comfort: It is as comfortable as any piercing from a tattoo shop could be.

Pros: The process is very quick and easy — You can get in and out with no problem.

Cons: This is a tattoo shop first, piercing shop second, and it really shows. If you want that “tattoo shop piercing” kind of experience, then this is the place for you.

Rebel Rebel Ear Piercing ($$$)

Location: 5051 E Orangethorpe Ave. Unit E Anaheim, CA 92807

Cleanliness: The studio is very clean and the sterilizing procedures are up to par with other piercing studios.

Pricing: This studio charges a fee for the piercing and for the jewelry. The pricing is higher up but the quality of service matches the high price tag.

Comfort: The piercers do a very good job at keeping you calm and informed throughout the whole experience. Who could ask for more?

Pros: This place is bougee, and definitely fits those who might feel uncomfortable in a tattoo parlor.

Cons: The cost is expensive AF, but the quality is worth it.

Wicked Tooth Gems & Body Piercings ($$)

Location: Fullerton, CA 92831

Cleanliness: This studio is clean and meets the standards. Sterilization procedures are well done.

Pricing: Pricing here is fair and jewelry is included in the price! There is also a very good variety of jewelry.

Comfort: The owner Rachel is very hands-on. She gives information on the piercings and also gives good advice on the placement too!

Pros: This is a small business and the owner is rad. They charge fairly and give excellent service. If you enjoy supporting small local businesses, Wicked Tooth Gems & Body Piercings is the place for you.

Cons: They are in a transitional stage of getting another studio, so they are operating out of a home studio, but it is just as clean and even more charming than a lot of other places.
