The Best Bars To Get Tipsy At In Downtown Fullerton

Mitchell Aragon / Tusk Magazine

Let’s be honest, when it comes to a night out at the bars, one is never enough. Here are four choice bars to get chocolate-wasted at in Downtown Fullerton.

1. The Slidebar Rock-N-Roll Kitchen

This is a go-to spot if your weekend isn’t complete without a concert. *Clink* your beer with friends on their wide-open patio while jamming out to live bands from punk rock to reggae. Former bartender Nicholas Baker says “Slidebar brought a lot of those loves for music out of me that I’d actually never experienced.”

The bar offers two drink stands, by the main stage and in the back corner of the second room. You can go to town on their All-American menu with grub like their “World Famous Mac n’ Cheese”.  Decked out with a red Cadillac previously owned by Travis Barker from Blink-182 plowing through the wall, Slidebar keeps the spirit of rock n’ roll alive in Downtown Fullerton.

Entry Fee: $5 after 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday

Address: 122 E Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton, CA 92832

2. Bourbon Street

Named after Bourbon Street, this bar is inspired by New Orleans. “It’s always Mardi Gras here,” says bar owner Larry Houser. They have fun drinks like fishbowls and offer twenty handles of Orange County craft beer, which you can drink in a tawdry plastic beer mug.

Get your selfie game on in the photo booth or dance your heart out to music spun by DJ’s from Thursday to Sunday. Come pre-game and groove along to live jazz on Saturday evenings.

Entry fee: Free on Thursdays (exception of a holiday event)

Address: 101 Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92832

3. Matador Cantina

This bar will keep the tipsy party going! Inspired by classic Mexican culture, you will feel emerged in a Latin fiesta. The entrance is at the back with club lighting spiraling outside its windows.

Bartender Crystal Gibis says at Cantina, “Everyone can come in, come drink and everyone can come dance.” Shake your ass off to a mix of hip-hop and Latin music.

If you have cash use it–bartenders seemed to take orders quicker this way. Thursday is college night where you can get deals like “$4 Mexican lollipop shots rimmed with Tajín or $6 Adios Motherfuckers.”

Entry Fee: $5 on Thursdays after midnight, $15 on Friday and Saturday after 10 p.m.

Address: 111 N Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92832

4. Hopscotch Tavern

This rustic, laid-back bar is the perfect way to end your night. With free entry (yeah, I said it: free!), your college checking account is going to thank you.

With low lighting and a slower-paced atmosphere, having a conversation you can actually hear is rewarding. If whiskey is your drink of choice, then you’re in for a treat with Hopscotch’s selection of over 140 varieties. Events Coordinator Nicole Robatian says what’s super popular is their Blue Collar: a beer with a shot of whiskey and a cigar or the White Collar, which provides the same amenities but at a top-shelf price.

Entry Fee: F R E E

Address: 136 E Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton, CA 92832
